Annotation:  Leonardo Fibonacci lived during the Middle Ages and loved anything to do with numbers.  As a child he is ridiculed but as an adult gains fame as a mathematician. Blockhead is the name he was given for being different.
Personal Reaction: I like learning things about unknowns who have made their mark in the world. Fibonacci was different and he suffered for his passion but overcame his difficulties.  Children can relate to anything or anyone being different in their world and this story presents a positive image of perseverance and following your passion.
Illustration: The illustrations evoke the period of Europe during the Middle Ages and aptly depict the story of the young mathematician. The humans are generally cast in brighter colors against a subtler background.  The full two page illustration of his numbers theory depicted by rabbits multiplying allows the reader to understand the meaning of the Fibonacci Sequence.
Use of Media: The illustrator uses color paints in a pointillist style with pen and ink details.
Use of literary device: the author uses repetition when he describes the places Fibonacci went to learn new ideas. For instance in Egypt, In Turkey, In Greece…
