Annotation: The early life of John J. Audubon who is still famous for his bird drawings. It is the natural life that attracts the youngster even in America. His passion enabled him to solve mysteries of bird migration.
Personal Reaction:  This is an enjoyable and informative background study on the famous artist and ornithologist. It can be used for science, art and even historical instruction. I also think it certainly is an excellent example for young readers to learn about following their passion and where it can lead. In the back matter is a short biography of Audubon, a bibliography and author’s source note for further information.
Illustration: The primary medium is colored line drawings with pastel tones but there are also some photographs of actual artifacts and animals. There is also some full color page illustrations that follow the text but also pages that are presented like collage art.
Use of Media:  The use of mixed mediums helps to give this book an artist feeling.  None of the different mediums overpower each other but enhance the story of an artist and nature.
