Annotation: Stringbean Coe and his brother Fred are on a journey from Kansas to the Pacific Ocean.  To keep in touch with their family they send postcards like many travelers.
Personal Reaction:  This book is a fun read and a visual feast for the eyes.  The adventures are filled with light humor.  Every page is a drawn postcard of a place they visit. This book would be good for a geography and history classes or even a creative writing class.
Illustration: All illustrations are drawings even the photos.  There is minute detail down to the stamps and the address on the postcards.  Once the reader becomes aware of all the different elements the reading becomes almost like a treasure hunt.
Use of Media:  This book is supposed to be a scrapbook of the characters journey. The details from the actual child’s writing to the fake postcards with the stamps seem so life like that the reader is easily drawn into the story.  Could the same book been made with photographs?  Yes, but it certainly would not have the charm that this book exudes.
